Taylor Swift's New Album Might Be a Mix of 'Hip-Hop and R&B Sounds'

The latest WTF rumor involving Taylor Swift is that her new album might be a combination of hip-hop and R&B.

Taylor Swift's next album might be a combination of hip-hop and R&B.

This surprising news comes by way of The Sun, so take the report in stride. Still, it's an interesting claim given the recent reports about Taylor and Drake. "Taylor is always looking at ways to grow as an artist and really wants to try something different and unexpected for the next album. She's not afraid of experimenting so she is working with a lot of different faces to see if she suits a new sound," a source revealed, according to The Sun. "The remix of her song Bad Blood had a less pop vibe—especially [with]Kendrick Lamar featured on it—and was a big hit, so she thinks her fans will like her going in this direction."

Swift is no stranger to switching genres. The singer-songwriter got her start in music as a teenager singing country. She has also introduced some elements of hip-hop into her tracks by recruiting Kendrick for her "Bad Blood" remix.

Of course, she has stayed pretty under the radar since being the focal point of one of 2016's biggest beefs with rap's Kanye West. Swift was on the receiving end of some significant backlash after Kim Kardashian Snapchatted video of Kanye and Taylor discussing the lyrics of his song "Famous." People took this incident as evidence that she approved of Kanye's lyrics beforehand, though the video did not explicitly show Kanye playing the "that bitch" part.

Most recently, Swift popped up at Drake's 30th birthday party in Los Angeles with a source later claiming that the two are actually collaborating on new music together. Both artists have a reputation for creating blockbuster hits and also each have a strong relationship with Apple, so it makes sense that she would recruit the 6 God for some direction. "As well as writing with Taylor, [Drake is] producing a few tracks and even lent his vocals to one song. It's a real mix of edgier hip-hop and R&B sounds," The Sun source added. Neither artist has confirmed the collaboration themselves.

Drake did fuel speculation by sharing a picture of the pair on his Instagram recently, but only time will tell exactly what musical direction Swift decides to take on her next album.
