Spotify is reportedly in talks to buy music streaming service, SoundCloud, according to the Financial Times.

The acquisition would come just months after SoundCloud launched its own paid streaming service in March.

This past month, Spotify reached an impressive 40 million paid subscribers only a week after the streaming services rival, Apple Music, announced had grown to 17 million subscribers. However, comparing the growth of the two streaming services of the past few months prove that Spotify's numbers are growing faster than Apple Music.

Talks appear to still be early, as neither of the companies have commented on the rumored sale. If completed, Spotify would bolster their standing in the streaming war, which has taken a number of turns lately with Apple Music leaning heavily on album exclusives from Drake and Frank Ocean.

It's currently unclear what Spotify purchasing SoundCloud would mean for either company, and if that would mean the end of SoundCloud's own paid streaming service. As of now, SoundCloud has over 130 million users, though it's unknown how many of those people have signed up for the paid service. We'll continue to update this story as more details become available.

40 is the new 30.
Million. 😄
