Puff Daddy was at the VMAs to present the award for Best Hip Hop Video. Being that the VMAs are in New York City at Madison Square Garden, Puff acknowledged The Bronx as the birthplace of hip-hop in his opening speech. He then announced the winner—which was Drake—for “Hotline Bling,” the memeworthy video that took over the internet last year.
When Drake was absent and unable to get his award in person, Puff laughed it off and claimed Drake was stuck in traffic. Puff thereafter declared that he was going to take the Moonman home with him, and summoned Drake to come get it at his crib. Based on the history between Puff and Drake, this ignited the internet. If you recall, they reportedly got into a fight in 2014 at Club Liv in Miami over the "0-100" instrumental.
Just last week, Puff showed up at Drake's "Summer Sixteen" tour stop in North Carolina to show his support for him, and possibly diffused the rumors about their past beef. But instead, Twitter and social media ran wild with this because, you know, Twitter just has that short of an attention span when it comes to these kinds of things.
