D DOTs

Following his FAYA EP from earlier in the year, London's D-DOTs is back with new single "Gyal Is Dead" on Shiftee's Hot Mom USA label. It's not even getting released until Aug. 26th and it's already had airplay from Diplo to rapturous reception. If you've ever clocked any of D-DOTs' mixes, you'll have an idea of what to expect: pan-global beats and thumping percussion, with nods to dancehall and kuduro. "For a long time, I've been working towards a certain aesthetic with D-DOTs," the producer told Complex. "In light, a very fun but simple party sound with injections of 'tropical' sounds/influences. In depth, a very Quentin Tarantino mind-setted approach to music—meaning not doing everything for a deep meaning, instead doing it just because it sounds and looks fucking cool. For me, 'Gyal Is Dead' was the first record I achieved this with; I've been absolutely blown away by the reaction it's had with DJs so far, and I can't wait to put it out to the rest of the world."
