Despite Drake’s ongoing beef with Funkmaster Flex, New York City still has plenty of love for the Toronto rapper. Case in point? The response he received when he took the stage at the Mad Decent Block Party in Brooklyn.

During Boi-1da’s DJ set Sunday, Drizzy was brought out for a surprise appearance, which included performances of “Jumpman,” “Back to Back,” and “For Free,” according to Pitchfork. Video and photos taken at the event show the crowd at MCU Park going completely nuts over Drake—we’re talking hands in the air while jumping and belting out lyrics in unison.

Drake has been in the city for a four-night Summer Sixteen tour stop at Madison Square Garden, where he also took shots at Flex on Friday. If you’ve been living under a rock, here’s what went down: During his performance at MSG, Drizzy accused the radio station of “telling lies,” and suggested Flex should be fired. Of course, this pushed the veteran Hot 97 DJ/radio personality to put Drake on blast during Saturday’s broadcast, in which he claimed Drake was not a top rapper and would never be until he started writing his own lyrics. Drake responded hours later by giving a shout out to “the real DJs” who are “keeping New York music alive.”

So was this surprise MDBP appearance just another shot at Flex? The fact that Drake can shut down a show he was never intended to perform at speaks volumes about his impact—specifically his impact on NYC. It’s also interesting that he decided to perform his Grammy-nominated diss track “Back to Back”—perhaps giving a subliminal middle finger to Flex and anyone else who questions his work.

Stay tuned to see if Flex responds.
