The Weeknd has been logging hours in the studio with the team behind his breakout mixtape, House of Balloons, he revealed in a recent interview with Vogue. “It’s a new thing," he said of the reunion. “Always a new thing.” Although his latest album, Beauty Behind the Madness, was by far his most successful, many fans still hold up House of Balloons as their favorite project. It's not clear exactly which collaborators he's talking about, but he worked heavily with Canadian producers Illangelo and Doc McKinney on the mixtape. Neither were featured on his debut album, Kiss Land, and only Illangelo made it onto a few tracks of Beauty Behind the Madness, so it's certainly possible they've been reunited to work on new music.

After his huge success in 2015, any news about new music from The Weeknd is naturally going to be a big deal. To hear that it could be coming from the minds behind his breakthrough project is even more exciting. It's clear that Weeknd's career has had a big impact on the music industry, and so it's interesting to see him returning to his roots in a way. “Right now, the radio is peppered with hints of production elements and vocal stylings that were very likely inspired by The Weeknd,” Taylor Swift said in the piece. “In our industry, that’s the surest sign you’re doing something right.”

The interview also touches on his dating life and his experiences touring with Swift. You can check out the whole piece here.
