Q-Tip On the Legacy of Phife Dawg: "He Is My Hero"

Q-Tip finally spoke out on the passing of his late friend and rap icon, Phife Dawg. The rapper and producer took to Twitter to pay tribute to his friend over the weekend. "I miss my lil brotha so much right now.... He is my hero. I've never seen such a fighter," he wrote. "Know that in death there is signs and gifts abound. He left me with the gift of unconditional love and brotherhood that will NEVER be lost with me... Ever. As we commit his body tomorrow his spirit is with us... I take comfort in knowing that GOD is the best of planners. I take comfort in knowing that divine order is certain...I take pride in having the blessing of knowing and having Malik in my life." Tip also celebrated his late friend on his Beats 1 Radio show, Abstract Radio, with a mix featuring audio from live A Tribe Called Quest performances and rare remixes. Kendrick Lamar, Andre 3000, and Chuck D then spoke words remembering on the show about Phife.

The entire music community is still mourning the loss of Phife. Earlier today, A Tribe Called Quest commemorated Phife with a tribute concert in New York’s St. Alban’s Memorial Park. Following the event, news broke that a posthumous Phife single and video will be dropping on Tuesday, April 5. Titled, "Nutshell," the track was produced by the late J Dilla and was originally set to appear on a forthcoming Phife solo project, Give Thanks.
