Naming the R&B and hip-hop superstars who have come from Atlanta in the past 25 years is like naming members of the New York Yankees who are in the Hall of Fame—everybody, no matter who you are, can get a few right. For devotees of these genres, the roster of important artists either from A-Town, or who made their name there, just goes on and on. And if you’re a hard-core fan, then you almost certainly know the name Bryan-Michael Cox. Behind every great artist is a great producer, and Cox has filled that role for the likes of Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige, and Atlanta’s own Usher to the tune of nine Grammy Awards and a wall full of hit records.
These days Cox is working as hard as ever to challenge himself, both as an artist and as a person. Always on the search for what’s next, he knows that the city of Atlanta has much to offer by way of inspiration. In the video above, we learn about Cox’s path to becoming a star producer, his current passion for DJing, and the importance of getting out and living life (not just writing songs about it). You also get a look at the new 2016 Toyota Avalon, which carries Cox from work, to play, and back again, in style. Check out the video to learn more.
