Today, Jan. 20, is now officially David Bowie Day in New York City, according to Bowie's Facebook page. The proclamation will take place tonight at the final performance of Bowie's New York Theater Workshop production Lazarus, which finishes up its sold-out run. Luis Castro, Acting Commissioner of the Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment, will present the proclamation on behalf of Mayor Bill de Blasio. This accolade arrives on the heels of the late icon's final album, Blackstar, hitting the No. 1 spot worldwide, including his first No. 1 album in the U.S. and the top spot on iTunes in 69 countries.
