Premiere: Listen to KROY’s Cover Of Adele’s “Hello”

Hello...it’s KROY.

None

If you’re going to cover Adele, you’d better be able to pull it off. Based on her commanding vocal delivery, it’s clear that KROY had no such anxiety.

You might recognize Camille Poliquin’s voice as one half of Montreal-based emotional electro powerhouse Milk & Bone, but she moonlights with her recording project KROY. Assisted by a small backing band, Camille’s expressive, note-perfect voice finds a welcome home amongst subtle bass progressions, analog drum machines, and lavish synth textures. In this context, “Hello” feels a little more modern, and a lot more haunting, compared to the orchestrally austere original.

"I don't think I would've willfully done a cover of ‘Hello’ if I hadn't been asked to. It seems it's the go to cover to do right now along with Justin Bieber's ‘Sorry’ or ‘What Do You Mean?,’” Poliquin told Complex. “I was asked to perform the cover as a live performance for a TV show. I kinda liked how it sounded and where I was headed with it. We didn't have much time to prepare for the performance so I just thought I'd record a another version to be released on Soundcloud. And here it is."

Listen to KROY’s cover of “Hello” by Adele below. Though we’d love to hear Camille’s take on “What Do You Mean?,” she’s in the midst of completing her first LP, which is set to be released in fall of 2016.
