For someone who is only 22 years old, it's quite amazing how tuned in Vince Staples is to his community and everything going on around him. In a recent interview with CNN, Staples didn't talk about his own music, but rather the overall glorification of drug use going on in rap right now.
He stressed the importance of education in keeping kids off the streets where they will be more likely to get addicted to drugs. "No matter what color the child that's dropping out is, no matter what the background of the child is, it hurts everybody," Staples said. It's worth nothing that the rapper dropped out of high school himself
Though Staples said he's never been into the drug life, he did reveal that he recently lost a friend to addiction. He also mentioned he attempts to help his friends who battle with drug addiction to get better and healthy. "There is a will and a need among some of us to try and better ourselves, and better our perception," Staples said. "There's just so many better things that we can do and show these kids than what drugs to take."
