When you think UNLV, you probably think names like Larry Johnson, Randall Cunningham, Ickey Woods, and Gina Carano. The school’s rep was built on the backs of great athletes who went on to fame and success at the highest level. But UNLV isn’t just all about sports—it’s got a thriving artistic community as well, with students pursuing careers in multiple creative disciplines, including music.

So while it may have seemed like an unconventional choice at first, Samsung thought UNLV would be a great pick for its Samsung Level Music Lab, a program that’s been traveling the country to bring immersive musical experiences to a handful of universities. Inspired by Samsung’s high quality line of Level headphones, the Samsung Level Music Lab provides aspiring young musicians with hands-on access to premium Samsung equipment, allowing them the capability to create the music they want.

But Samsung doesn’t go it alone. At each stop of the Level Music Lab tour, they are joined by a musical artist who provides the students with some much needed mentorship and advice. And when you’re headed to Las Vegas, you know that artist best be one of the most skilled players in the game. Maybe someone like...

A$AP Rocky?

That’s right, A$AP stepped up and made the trip out to Sin City, where he spoke to a rapt audience of students about the power of education and self-discovery—a journey that continues well past college. “I’m just a student like y’all,” Rocky told the crowd, “cuz life is a learning experience.” Rocky then reminded everyone of some age-old advice that all artists need to keep in mind—always be yourself, and never do it for anyone else.

But one lucky student got the surprise of the day—or, quite possibly, his whole life—when Rocky showed up in the music studio where he was working and listened to some of the kid’s works in progress. And since the second half of being a great musical act is always making sure you look good, Rocky brought the student along on a little field trip to Barneys New York for a quick tutorial in style.

You can check out a video featuring A$AP Rocky’s UNLV trip above, and follow along with the Samsung Level Music Lab series on the Samsung Live YouTube page. The tour has more stops ahead, so be sure to check back for more videos featuring some of the hottest acts in music mentoring the best artists of tomorrow.
