Look past the utterly bonkers visuals supporting Tkay Maidza's Switch Tape EP and you've got what is essentially pop music from space. Rousing refrains, choppy breaks and stodgy basslines form the crux of what Maidza's about but its her frenetic, almost percussive bars that keep us coming back again and again. Her style is caustic, beautiful, uplifting and dark all at once and, impressively, Maidza's rapping—particularly on "Uh-Huh" and "Finish Them"—is just as deftly executed as her genuinely stunning vocal performances on tracks like "Switch Lanes", making her truly a sonic force to be reckoned with.
