Sydney synth-pop stalwarts Bag Raiders have returned with Friend Inside, a follow-up to their Waterfalls EP released earlier this year. The duo appear to have been hoarding tracks since their more conspicuous appearances promoting their self-titled debut in 2010, which featured their omnipresent magnum opus “Shooting Stars."
Since then, the boys set out to support the album with live shows across the world, and also managed to re-settle themselves in Los Angeles. With some further worldly experience under their belt, the duo deliver a project that sounds as shiny and new as you’d expect—but it still touches upon the familiar in a myriad of ways.
The title track presents a post-pop landscape that’s as up-tempo as ever, only further accented by a wolf’s howl of a chorus. Meanwhile, "Footprints" deftly nails the middle point between the best sample-centric production of early Daft Punk, and the most vibrant vocal performances from their latest releases.
