Kanye West's acceptance speech for the MTV Video Vanguard Award has already been etched in everyone's minds all week, but he was originally set to do a lot more at the show. In an interview with Billboard, executive producer Van Toffler said that West was supposed to perform and give a speech, but plans changed mid-show: "We decided to be open to whatever Kanye wanted because he’s given us so many moments—unexpected ones. So we weren’t sure whether he would break into song or not. We had a track—he would have rapped to his biggest hits."

Toffler says that they weren't sure what West would do until just before he touched the stage to accept his award. Even though we missed out on a performance, he still gave us all a moment to remember. Read the rest of the interview here.
