Is One Direction Breaking Up?

Rumor has it that One Direction are calling it quits.

One Direction are reportedly on the verge of an "extended hiatus," according to The Sun. The British publication reported earlier today that the boy band will take a lengthy break "of at least a year" after their "On The Road Again" tour concludes in Sheffield on Halloween. The news comes a few months after Zayn Malik left the group to pursue his own solo career but The Sun reports that the planned hiatus was in place before Malik's departure.

According to The Sun, 1D will still release a scheduled fifth album but have opted out of a tour in support of the record. All the news comes from an anonymous source who says the remaining four members are set to launch into their own solo ambitions—Harry seems to have the best chance of his own solo breakout while Liam apparently is more interested in songwriting and deejaying—and reports that the decision came after a meeting in London over the weekend.

This is unequivocally bad news for One Direction fans, but at least the guys are planning their own solo moves. For now we're just left to parse the real meaning of "extended hiatus" and cross our fingers that a comeback isn't out of the question.
