"When anything important in hip-hop happens," announced Hot 97 host Ebro Darden this morning, "it happens on Hot 97."

Last night, however, hip-hop was left wanting as host Funk Flex, who'd promised the premiere of Meek Mill's rumored diss against Drake, instead played Future's "Commas" and Omarion's "Post to Be" like 400 times and then called it a night. With a day's worth of hype and no new music to show for it, Meek tweeted through it, and Funk Flex withstood the subsequent wrath of Twitter.

Today, Hot 97 morning hosts Ebro, Peter Rosenberg, and Laura Stylez recapped last night's confusion, and they defended Funk Flex's role in the situation. "We don't record music, and we don't write rhymes," Ebro said. "We play music. We go off people's word."

Stylez asked Ebro, "Do you think [the song] just wasn't ready?"

"It's possible," Ebro answered. "Maybe they just wanted to see what Drake would do. Drake put out 'Charged Up.' Meek put up a Tumblr post."
