DJ Mustard dropped a free project this month called 10 Summers: The Mixtape Vol. 1 and he spoke with the LA Leakers about how it came together.

The Los Angeles-based hitmaker broke down what we could expect from him sonically this year, describing the beats he’s creating lately as “scary music.”

“That’s what I call it. Real dark, but still a bounce to it. Real eerie music, like more melody to it,” he says. “Just painting a new picture and carving a new road, making it different because a lot of people are doing the same thing. I feel like they don’t have the guidance.”

He also discussed working with Kanye West and the story behind how they collaborated on music.

“My publisher hit me one morning. This was a minute ago. I was here out in LA. He was like, ‘Ye want to work with you.’ I just finished being in the studio. It was like 9 in the morning. We leaving the studio and they telling us this," he recalls. "I’m like, ‘I hope he say we gonna work tonight.’ So they call back 10 minutes later like, he wanna work right now.’ So me and my engineer got in my car and we drove all the way to Santa Barbara to work with him. I gave him like 100 beats. From there, we got “Sanctified.” I don’t know what else we did. He definitely picked beats that he liked though.”

After describing the type of features he wanted on this tape, he shared some exclusive info on his upcoming single. Mustard’s known to have some big names on his singles, and he’s revealed that Chris Brown will be on one of them. Another possible single is with Kid Ink and Fetty Wap, but that might not make the album.
