Wal-Mart Hiring DJ After Complaints That They Play Too Much Justin Bieber & Céline Dion

Introducing DJ Minimum Wage on the ones and twos.

Wal-Mart’s reputation as a terrible employer is well-documented, but it looks like the monstrous corporation is finally taking steps to improve the well-being of employees and customers alike.

As if working at Walmart wasn’t already bad enough, apparently workers have been subjected to a half-hour mix CD that’s been on a constant loop for months. According to the Washington Post, the mix heavily featured two Canadian treasures—Justin Bieber and Céline Dion. The mix received a staggering number of complaints, many of them citing Biebs and Céline specifically.

While Canadians might not bat an eye at this kind of patriotic playlist, it will no longer fly in Walmart stores worldwide. At an annual shareholders meeting in Fayetteville, AR, executives announced Walmart Radio, a soundtrack of music curated by a live DJ. Will a deep house set by Tiesto get you in the zone for your next shopping spree? Maybe. Just don’t expect to hear your favourite frugal Macklemore jam.

In even better news, Wal-Mart also announced plans to relax their strict dress code, and increase wages for roughly 500,000 workers by raising its minimum wage to $10 an hour by 2016. These types of considerations don’t absolve the corporate goliath of its sins wholesale, but it’s a start.
