While certain sectors of the internet promptly imploded following Donald Glover's cryptic statements surrounding the future of the Childish Gambino moniker, others were less convinced. Some predicted that Glover's statements were specifically referencing a possible finality to the Gambino name, a finality not necessarily implying a permanent departure from music entirely. Of course, Glover's higher acting profile this year — i.e. stripping alongside Channing Tatum in Magic Mike XXL, reviving Olivia Wilde in The Lazarus Effect, and going to Mars in Ridley Scott's The Martian — helped fuel the assumption that future music from Gambino and/or Glover was simply no longer a priority for the hypercreative multihyphenate.
