The Legal Battle Over B.B. King's Estate Is Headed To Court

The battle over B.B. King's estate has just begun.

Less than two weeks after his burial, the legal battle over B.B. King's estate is headed to a Las Vegas court.

The AP reports that LaVerne Toney, King's road manager of 39 years, filed documents earlier this week requesting that she be granted approval as the executor of his estate. The move comes shortly after two of King's daughters accused Toney and a personal assistant of poisoning their father and disregarding his declining health. The claims sparked an autopsy but while a toxicology report has yet to be released police say there isn't an active homicide investigation into King's death.

Lawyers for Toney denied the claims outright but left the issue out of the filing for the time-being. "The spurious and unjustified allegations made against Ms. Toney by Patty King, Karen Williams and Larissa Drohobyczer will be dealt with at a later time," her lawyer said.

Several members of King's family, as many of five of his eleven children, announced through a representative plans to challenge Toney as executor of the will.

How much King's estate is actually worth remains unclear, but a court document from earlier this year hinted at $5 million in one bank account and estimated the value of his house at $330,000.
