Alex Winston catapulted herself onto the blogosphere back in 2011 when she first appeared on The Knocks' "You Can't Hurry Love" cover and later her infectious debut "Sister Wife." The subsequent 2012 album King Con was chalk full of unique subject matter from "Velvet Elvis" to the quirky "Fire Ant" and beyond with her crooning Motown voice on full display. Behind the scenes though was a disheartening relationship with management and a disbanding label that weighed heavy on the rising artist. This weight was never more evident than Alex Winston's musical resurrection on the epically cathartic "101 Vultures" that declares "in a sea of motherfuckers, you were no salvation."

2014 saw Alex Winston ink a new deal with Lyor Cohen's label 300 and the long-awaited release of new music. That new chapter culminates today with the premiere stream of Alex's The Day I Died  EP that premiered over on Noisey. From the New Order meets Oh Land intro, Alex Winston arrives with a newfound pep in her pop-step saturated in 80's acid-washed keys and oozing shred-of-hope notes that descend into a heart-churning earworm. "Down Low" digs into the singer's ceremonious swan song as the melody bleeds into the lyrical melancholy before relenting to a triumphant bridge back above ground as she finally lets go. Alex saves the best for last as "Dead End" strikes a carefree chord rife with vibrant, take-no-prisoners riffs fated to take all who listen to it down a new path well-paved with exultant possibilities.

Stream The Day I Died EP out via 300 below and catch her on tour this summer with Neon Trees (dates here).
