Rihanna has already released three varied singles from her upcoming untitled album: the ballad "Four Five Seconds," the pop-street anthem "Bitch Better Have My Money," and the powerful "American Oxygen." While they all display a different side of the songstress, they don't come close to fully demonstrating her range and lifestyle. The FADER spoke to Brooklyn producer/DJ Dre Skull, who is also founder of Popcaan and Vybz Kartel current label, Mixpak Records. He states that Rihanna's people have been contacting he and some of his close artists friends.
“I know firsthand and secondhand that she’s been reaching out to a lot of people in the dancehall world. I’m not suggesting it’s gonna be [a dancehall album] but [her people] are excited about dancehall and to work in that sort of context. They’ve reached out to Popcaan, but I’ve talked to a number of people in Jamaica that they’ve reached out to,” Dre Skull told The Fader.
He went on to say that he couldn't confirm whether these collaborations were definitely going to happen. However, most fans are probably in the same boat as Dre Skull, and want Rihanna to explore a dancehall sound. It would be interesting to see her interpretation of the genre, she has already demonstrated she enjoys.
