There may be few better DJ/producers to turn to if looking for a funky good time or left-of-center (yet right-on-point) inspiration than Brooklyn's Cousin Cole. Quite literally a musical encyclopedia, his brand of #RealDJing has much less to do with hip-hop's history than just keeping dance floors filled in bars, clubs (and more) worldwide. Today's just-released New Year's Day 2015 mix is cut into two parts for what he says are sounds "not normally mixed," and intended for "nursing hangovers, eating black eyed peas, and breaking resolutions." As well, why is it separated into two parts? "So you can burn it to CDs and listen on the go in your Discman," he says. No playlists here, but we at DAD assure you that there's two-plus hours of vibey soul, jazz, disco, not-so-mainstream rock, and some choice African records here, and it's well worth the listen (and burn?).
