This past weekend, A$AP Rocky was at the Sundance Film Festival for the premiere of Dope. The coming-of-age dramedy, which was directed and written by filmmaker Rick Famuyiwa, features Rocky in a supporting role. According to Rolling Stone, he plays as Dom, a character who Malcolm, Dope's main protagonist, meets along his journey from the drug-infested Inglewood, Calif streets to a shot at going Harvard.
After the movie's premiere on Saturday night, there was an overnight bidding war for the film's rights. Big-hitters The Weinstein Co., Lionsgate, A24, Fox Searchlight, and Relativity all competed, but it was Open Road and Sony who ended up winning. They'll pay out $7 million with a $20 million marketing budget, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The movie's IMDB page also sports Tyga, Vince Staples, and Casey Veggies, with credits for small roles. Check out Dope's trailer below for a small peak at Rocky in the film.
