Two years ago today, on October 2, 2012, Miguel released his second album, Kaleidoscope Dream, the follow-up to All I Want Is You. His sophomore release is one of the most blissful and accessible R&B albums of the decade, the kind of record that immediately entered the wedding playlist canon. For decades to come, your friends will get married and you'll feel happy for them while "Adorn" plays.
Unfortunately, details about Miguel's third album are hard to come by, and new releases have been few as well. (His Carlos Santana collaboration "Indy" tries to turn a Temple of Doom reference into a come-on. It doesn't work.) Until more Miguel finds us, we're left to revisit Kaleidoscope Dream, the songs of which I've ranked here, from worst to best. I've done this without consulting my colleagues. (Damien Scott, in particular, really doesn't agree with me beyond the top two.)
8. "Where’s the Fun in Forever"
7. "Use Me"
4. "The Thrill"
2. "Do You…"
1. "Adorn"
