Late last month, SMOG let it be known that they had a new compilation, Battle Royale, Vol. 1, set to drop on October 7. While the hook is that its a collection of 10 previously-unreleased bass music beasts, I love how it's a legit "battle," with each track being collaborative efforts. Now, I got to hear the full compilation, and this cut "2000EMU" hit me like a shot. It's not the MOST DISGUSTING RIDDIM EVERZZ!!~@!~!, but just the right amount of oomph and grit to keep a dubstep lover like me turnt. Then I got wind that California-based Haunta's 15-years-old, while Invictous is 16-years-old. Consider my mind blown. For those out there on that "dubstep is dead," this compilation will blow that mentality out of the water, but when you sink into lethal cuts like "2000EMU," and realize the producers behind it can't even legally buy beer in the U.S., recognize that this scene is in very safe hands.
