Hip-pop meets road rap. And works!

Even as he preps his third studio release, Growing Up In Public, it's clear that Professor Green strives to keep his ears firmly to the streets: he recently tapped the talents of south London's Stormzy and Fekky for the remix of his new single, "Hugs And Kisses". As one of the albums bonus tracks (available on the deluxe edition), "Hugs And Kisses" serves as a firm back-hand to the star's critics, with lines like: "Dunno why they hate on me, they should be inspired/ Get up off their backsides, and chase their desires..."

Over heavy guitar riffs, it's a mish-mash of styles on show here that shouldn't, but somehow manages to work. Pro Green displays the customary quick wit and fast-paced flow that helped shoot him to stardom from battle-rap infamy. Fekky joins in, injecting hype and bravado, which is then followed by man of the moment, Stormzy, chipping with an equally impressive sixteen. "Hugs And Kisses" doesn't initially strike as an album standout but it's a welcomed reminder that chart-topping lyricists can co-exist with the newcomers of underground rap.
