Mike D of the Beastie Boys spoke to Vanity Fair in a three-part interview. He offered a unique perspective regarding the events surrounding the beef between Biggie and Tupac, which resulted in both rappers' premature deaths. "It still boggles my mind because it escalated so fast," he said. Pointing to Pac's artistic background, Mike said that his drive to "be authentic" ultimately led to his death. As a New York rapper, however, Mike and the Beasties had no issues in the West Coast, as they went to clubs to watch acts like The Pharcyde and Cypress Hill perform. In parts two and three of the sitdown, Mike reminisced upon the important moments of the nineties and also talked about the making of the Beastie's video for "Sabotage."
