Tommy Ramone, the last surviving original member of the Ramones, has passed last night. Born Erdelyi Tamas, he was the drummer and main producer for the pioneering punk rock group until 1978, contributing to their first three albums before leaving and being replaced by Marky Ramone. He later would have a hand in producing other Ramones albums alongside Ed Stasium, including Road To Ruin and Too Tough To Die. The band officially disbanded in 1996 and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.
Tommy was 62 and suffering from bile duct cancer. The other original members of the group were Joey Ramone, Dee Dee Ramone, and Johnny Ramone; they died in 2001, 2002, and 2004, respectively.
