Houston-based producer Ape Drums' career is in the midst of a perfect storm, and if you listen to the tracks he's currently dropping, it's as though that storm is nothing but a continuous hailstorm of heat rocks. When the man who was recently interviewed by Do Androids Dance (and is also supporting UK bass dons Chase and Status on tour) partners with Mad Decent-affiliated Swedish producer of Afghan descent Phat Deuce, it's certain that these reggae and dancehall aficionados will create a track that could be the soundtrack to a wild, funky, slow wind and twerk-filled party.
Ten years after its 2004 release, Beenie Man and Ms. Thing's "Fiesta riddim" workout "Dude" gets a modern moombahton update, and release on the indie/underground label of the moment, Main Course. If anything, with the most EDM party and festival sets now being a game of shifting tempos between 70 - 100 - 120 - 140, moombahton isn't so much a genre that gets long-term airplay on the mainstream festival circuit anymore as much as it is a useful tempo shifting tool. Thus, the label's description of this track with the phrase "this track is a weapon" makes sense. An ideal re-working at a perfect time, it's certainly a must download for the working DJ.
