Back in March, Complex offered up preview clips from the new Mobb Deep album, The Infamous Mobb. With features from Snoop Dogg, The Lox, Bun B, Juicy J, and Nas, and production from Illmind, Alchemist, and a stack of new beats from Havoc, it looked (and sounded) to be a classic album for true hip-hop heads. What sparked our interest though was the record that Kaytranada cooked up (and has been hinting at for months). The offering is wavy and minimal, and puts this prolific Canadian producer in the same shoes as Mayhem, Heroes x Villains, A-Trak, and Lee Bannon, an incredible list of producers that popped with EDM and rounded back to make a palatable rap record.
