Ten years ago, in 2004, MF DOOM released his fourth album, the Madlib-produced masterpiece Madvillainy. It became the most well-received album of the rapper's career, arguably his last "classic" record.

Today on Stones Throw label head Peanut Butter Wolf's Instagram, an image was posted of, ostensibly, an email from someone named DOOM with the subject line MV2. (Although technically a Madvillany 2 has already been released, it was an album full of remixes by Madlib, who was impatient for a sequel to one of his signature projects.) The email suggests, as you can read below, that DOOM is doing "final touch-ups" over the weekend, and that the project will soon be ready.

The Instagram post has since been deleted, presumably to preserve some of the mystery. (Peanut Butter Wolf is saying it was an April Fool's Joke.) But we managed to grab a screenshot. This is not a 'shop, folks.

Can it be true? Have stars aligned and, a decade after its predecessor was released, we now have the true sequel to Madvillainy? Or perhaps this is another man in a DOOM costume, in an elaborate switcheroo. Only time will tell.

To be extra careful, consider signing this petition to ensure the record's release through online petition magic.
