There are many events in rap history that are either unknown or forgotten, from album releases to deaths to random ass events most of us can't even recall. As an attempt to remember those moments, Complex will share an event that helped shape hip-hop in a sometimes minor, sometimes major way. Join us as we look back on This Day in Rap History.

March 30, 1995

While promoting his debut solo album Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version, Old Dirty Bastard took MTV cameras with him to show audiences how he lives. To prove the ODB Food Stamp ID used for his album art was true to his lifestyle, ODB took MTV News out in a stretch limousine and brought two of his 13 kids and mom along to pick up his food stamps. The MTV News story lived on as one of ODB's most legendary moments with the media, with comments like, "Why wouldn't you want free money?" and "You owe me 40 acres and a mule, anyway! For real." RIP ODB.
