There are many events in rap history that are either unknown or forgotten, from album releases to deaths to random ass events most of us can't even recall. As an attempt to remember those moments, Complex will share an event that helped shape hip-hop in a sometimes minor, sometimes major way. Join us as we look back on This Day in Rap History.

March 1, 1997

On March 1, 1997, The Notorious B.I.G. appeared on Sway & King Tech's Wake Up Show. 2Pac had died a mere six months earlier, and Sway got Biggie to talk about his relationship with Pac and address rumors that he had a hand in his death. Big was conciliatory about Pac's death, saying that he missed him more than most people did. He came out swinging, however, when Sway brought up the claim that he stole from Pac stylistically: "If it's anything, [Tupac] should've been happy for me more than anything else. He was saying I sounded like him, that's bananas." After the interview, Biggie freestyled for about three minutes, rapping verses from future Life After Death cuts "Long Kiss Goodnight" and "You're Nobody (Til Somebody Kills You)." Sadly, just eight days later, on March 9th, he'd be shot and killed. Check the clip above.
