With his latest solo album, G I R L, in stores today, Pharrell got on the phone with Hot 97's Angie Martinez to talk about the latest events in his life. Of course, he talked about the success of "Happy," and explained that it came out after ten tries at making the right song for a "pivotal scene" in Despicable Me 2.

He also talked about his performance on Sunday at the Oscars, and said that the attention and commercial success he has received for both "Happy" and G I R L far outweigh the fact that he did not win an award at the Oscars. The album itself stemmed from a suggestion by label executives who had heard Daft Punk's "Get Lucky" last year and convinced him to take a stab at a new solo album.

Before getting off the phone, Pharrell said that Alicia Keys' upcoming album is "crazy," adding that she is "about to do something super next-level."
