March 3, 1989
On March 3, 1989, De La Soul released their debut album 3 Feet High and Rising. The album generated a few of the group's popular singles, including "Me Myself and I," "The Magic Number," "Buddy," and "Eye Know." 3 Feet High and Rising has been a regular on "greatest albums" lists, including Rolling Stones' 500 Greatest Albums of All Time and The Source's 100 Best Rap Albums. In 2010, the album was added to the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress—an honor achieved by only one other rap album; Public Enemy's Fear of a Black Planet.
