There are many events in rap history that are either unknown or forgotten, from album releases to deaths to random ass events most of us can't even recall. As an attempt to remember those moments, Complex will share an event that helped shape hip-hop in a sometimes minor, sometimes major way. Join us as we look back on This Day in Rap History.

February 14, 1981

While it's been mistakenly thought that Run-D.M.C. was the first hip hop group to appear on Saturday Night Live, Enjoy Records' Funky 4 Plus 1 was actually the first hip-hop group on the show. On February 14, 1981, the Funky 4 Plus 1 performed their classic hit "That's That Joint" on SNL. The Funky 4 Plus 1 are also notable for being one of the first hip-hop groups to feature a female MC,  Sha Rock, aka the "Plus 1." Unfortunately, the group disbanded in 1983.
