Nick Catchdubs is the latest guest on Mass Appeal’s Rhythm Roulette, a show in which producers hit up record stores, choose three random records while blindfolded, and sample the records to make a beat on the spot. The co-founder of Fool's Gold Records (home to A-Trak, Danny Brown, and Flosstradamus, among others) hit up Good Records, a vinyl-only store in the East Village, for the episode.

Check out the video above and get some insight into Catchdubs’ beatmaking process, as he tackles records “[he] literally [doesn’t] know anything about.” The beat, made from some “throwback Latin” music (“They look like a funky bunch, some excellent haircuts and teeth on this cover”) and “Vans” by The Pack (“I feel like this was recorded in someone’s bedroom”), is also available to stream and download below. Featuring trap-inspired stuttering high-hats and some dope “bodega-style horn stabs” sourced from Latin instrumentals, the beat seems made for an intra-label collab, like say, a Danny Brown guest verse. Not that we’re hinting or anything.

Catchdubs will be performing on February 28 at the American Museum of Natural History’s One Step Beyond party, supporting DJ Rashad and DJ Spinn. His Smoke Machine LP, including the single “Bizness” ft. IAMSU! and Jay Ant, is coming soon.
