In a recent interview with Radio.com, the music supervisor of the HBO series Girls, Manish Raval, revealed that its upcoming season will feature some original material from well-known artists. Among them are Miguel and Lily Allen, as well as indie vet Beck and Jenny Lewis, who we last saw assisting The Postal Service on their reunion tour. Most of the songs were either written for the show or new and unattached to another project, except for the Beck song, which is from his forthcoming album Morning Phase. But the episode will air before the album is released.
According to Raval, getting Miguel to write new material wasn't that much of a stress: "We reached out to him. We are a huge fan of his and very early on in the process Lena [Dunham] said, 'Can we just call him and see if he’ll do something?' We did, he said yes. It was very easy, it was very simple."
Not easy? Getting Rihanna's music on the show. Raval also mentioned in the Q&A that Rihanna denied the show use of her song "Talk That Talk" for a season 2 episode. They used Icona Pop's Charli XCX-penned "I Love It" and ultimately assisted the Swedish pop group in extending their reach.
