Last week, we had the pleasure of being the first English language blog to present to you the emerging rasterinha subgenre of baile funk. This was very much thanks to two people. Firstly, our friend DJ Comrade who pointed me in the right direction, and Renato Martins who wrote the initial Portuguese articles for Funk na Caixa and Noisey. The two of them, along with producer Omulu, were kind enough to put their heads together and come up with a tracklist for a mixtape that DJ Comrade then mixed together exclusively for us and our readers. It's a mix of rasterinha tracks from Brazilian producers and MCs as well as productions that meld the the genre with other global bass music influences.
I don't understand Portuguese myself, but from what I hear, these tracks are not what you would play for your grandparents.
