Chance The Rapper appeared on The Arsenio Hall Show last night. He performed "Chain Smoker," a song off his critically-acclaimed Acid Rap mixtape. This marked the first television performance for the Chicago native, which is just another milestone in a growing list. Backed by his three-piece band, Chance juked around on stage and showcased the passion that has made him one of the most compelling stories in hip-hop this year.

Prior to the performance, Chance was interviewed by Arsenio about his musical influences, touring with Eminem, and the violence in Chicago. Saying that violence in his hometown had decreased in 2013 compared to the previous year, he urged people to continue to look past petty things such as gangs and cliques in order to continue the positivity.

Chance also talked about the music industry with a surprising amount of intelligence for a 20 year old. He talked about the "pyramid scheme" that major labels were propagating by signing rappers to deals and then allowing them to sign other rappers under an imprint within the label, and said that these deals were ultimately leaving rappers with unfair situations. He argued that moving forward, rappers should come together to establish bare minimums that labels and publishing companies should provide signees, including benefits like health and dental insurance. If this is what Chance has in mind just a couple of years into his career, this could be the start of a bright, trailblazing future.
