Last night, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis performed the second of a three-night run at The Theater at Madison Square Garden. While the duo had no surprise guests on the first night, last night the two switched things up by bringing out M1 of Dead Prez. After describing him as a "legend," Macklemore then handed the stage over to M1 so he could perform his group's biggest song, "Hip-Hop."

There was even more hip-hop and underground icon backstage. Macklemore posted a picture on his Instagram of himself, Lewis, DJ Premier, and Immortal Technique. The caption read: "Shout out to Immortal Technique & DJ Premier for coming through tonight. Crazy man. Preem told me Ryan and I remind him of Gang Starr... The highest compliment. Amazing night NYC."

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis have previously expressed their respect for Technique and Premier, so it's no surprise to see the Seattle duo pay homage and show respect to their idols. Still, it doesn't make the moment any less powerful, especially as a foil to those who claim that Macklemore does not represent hip-hop.
