New Zealand singer Lorde may have started out as just a regular 16-year-old girl, but she's music royalty now whether she believes it or not. After a months-long bidding war between different publishing houses, she's signed a reported $2.5 million deal with Songs Music Publishing, according to Billboard.

The deal includes worldwide publishing rights to her debut EP, The Love Club, as well as her recent full-length, Pure Heroine, and all future recordings. More than half a dozen publishers, including Kobalt, Universal Music Publishing Group, Sony/ATV and Spirit were vying for the deal, Billboard reported. The deal was signed on Nov. 7, coincidentally Lorde's (actual name Ella Yellich O'Connor) 17th birthday.

Head of A&R Ron Perry has reportedly already introduced her to some of her peers in the publishing house, Diplo and noted Lorde fan The Weeknd.

"She’s gonna be a really big songwriter outside of Lorde," Perry told Billboard. "She’s going to have a lot of big songs out there as Ella, and it’s a great feeling that we can be at a place that understands music comes first and foremost."

Songs Music is a publishing company, which is different from a label in that it only manages the rights to the music. The company was founded in 2004. Other artists on the roster include Nelly, Pharrell and DJ Mustard.

With Lorde's "Royals" entering its sixth week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, the deal seems totally justified. A champagne and Maybach celebration might be in order. Or is that only what they do in the songs?
