If you're a touring rock 'n' roll band, you know you're on the right track when you can claim to be doing something no other band has done since the "Grateful Dead in 1978." Such is the case with the Black Lips. Last year they did a tour through the Middle East, hitting Jordan, Iraq, Dubai, and Egypt (the latter was the first visit from an American band since the Dead played the Pyramids when Carter was president).

They filmed the whole thing and the resulting doc, Kids LIke You & Me: A Middle East Tour Film, will be screened at each of their stops on a brief East Coast jag this month. Tonight the tour comes to Manhattan with a screening at Village East at 7 and a show at Bowery Ballroom afterward. And check out our visit with the group on their home turf from 2011 below.
