DJA is one of the most underrated factors in the music game right now. If you aren't familiar, he moved from Louisville to Philly and "began working with Diplo and Mad Decent as a producer and engineer." I doubt many people can list this as their first gig in the industry. He had a project with Paul Devro called Toadally Krossed Out. He and Dirty South Joe have a highly successful mixtape series, "Blood Bros." He's a sick DJ, and has produced records for Lil Wayne, Lil Twist, Wale, 2 Chainz, Rittz, and a stack more. He's signed to Mad Decent. Everything is in place, except the touring.
One reason is that he has tinnitus, which means he hears sounds that don't actually exist. He played music at loud volumes for years, and to prevent further damage, is taking the proper steps to protect his hearing. This has turned him into a studio rat, creating records and digging for new sounds at a furious pace. This mix shows just how deep his crates are though. He also missed the timing of the whole EDM bubble. Must suck being years ahead of the curve.
The influence from his roots in the south is apparent. Young Dro, Gucci Mane, 2 Chainz, Rich Homie Quan, and Juicy J are sprinkled in, and this tracklist reads like the personal collection of anyone that was around 10 years ago and actually cared about the rap music that was being released below the Mason-Dixon line. And as we continue to beat you over the head with the importance of those that know how to mix and mash influences, DJA is one that you really need to pay attention to.
