Britney Spears' music usually brings thousands of fans together here in America. But on the Indian Ocean, the music is being used as a powerful weapon to drive people away.

British tankers are using Britney's classic hits such as "Oops! I Did It Again" and "Baby One More Time" to repulse Somali pirates that are notorious for raiding vessels in the area and demanding large ransoms. According to merchant navy officer Rachel Owens, “These guys can’t stand Western culture or music, making Britney’s hits perfect.” The music is being blasted out of speakers aboard the ship that are set up in such a way as to not disturb the crew.

It appears that the new tactic has been working, as there have only been eight reported attacks in the first half of 2013.
