On October 14, Klute caps off his 15th year in the drum & bass game with his seventh studio album, The Draft. Set to encompass everything he loves about music, not just drum & bass but the jazz, techno, rock & roll, and other genres he's soaked up since his last album was released in 2010, Klute crafts drum & bass at its best: highlighting what's right about what influences us. That's the funny thing about a genre like drum & bass; there was a time when producers got away from highlighting their influences, which was what the scene was built on, and just started mimicking the dnb producers that influence them. Mixing water with water only breeds more water, but if you throw in some different tastes or colors, you come up with some exciting new flavors and varieties.
September 30 sees the release of The Draft's sampler, which you can preview down below. While everything's at a drum & bass tempo, you can tell where the different sounds are coming from, like the hazy nightclub bop of the percussion on "Birdland"to "Give It All," which maintains a more worldly, warm vibe.
