Does anybody confront you about working with Gucci? Or Would Gucci say, "Don’t work with these guys?"
Hell no. Never. I don’t even think a dude would have that in him to call me and say shit like that. I would look at you differently. If you came to me talking about some other niggas that I don’t have anything to do with, I would look at you differently. You put yourself in that situation, I just would look at you differently.
Even when Gucci was beefing with Jeezy, he would still tell me, "You gotta give me some shit like you gave Jeezy bruh!" Dude is a fun motherfucker, so it’s just weird to think that anyone would have a problem with a guy like that. Everyone says he’s bipolar. I haven’t seen any diagnostic proof that he has any condition. To me, he has been loyal, real, and he always tells the truth to me. If he fucks up, he admits it. How many of us fuck up and then will admit it?
People are so caught up in the lies and the bullshit, if you look at the careers he has boosted and the people he’s helped, he ain’t a stingy motherfucker. How can you have problems with a motherfucker who did so much to help you? This dude started Bricksquad and put everyone on the roster. I try to stay out of this shit. I just support guys who support me. That’s my motto. Another motto is, if it isn’t beneficial it isn’t necessary. So, if it doesn’t benefit me why am I even considering this bullshit?
What is your relationship like with Waka?
Me and Waka are the same way as me and Gucci. Waka can come to the crib. I need a verse, he gives me a verse. I need a remix, he gives me a remix. If I call Waka right now and say, "I need you," he’ll respond, "I got you."
Do you still have plans to work with Waka and BSM?
I will work with anybody that wants to work with me. If Waka reaches out and says, "I need you, let’s get it," then I'm there. I work with Jeezy and Gucci, I work with Yo Gotti and Gucci. I don’t have anything to do with their beef. I don’t really keep up with that personal stuff. That doesn’t have anything to do with me. I stay working on the business level. Now, if you have a problem with me or a dude disses me, then that’s different.
Even when Gucci was beefing with Jeezy, he would still tell me, "You gotta give me some s**t like you gave Jeezy bruh!" Dude is a fun. It’s weird to think that anyone would have a problem with a guy like that. Everyone says he’s bipolar. I haven’t seen any diagnostic proof that he has any condition.
Have you been seeing these issues between Gucci and Waka growing over time or did it come out of the blue?
Have you ever had a fight with your brother? It’s the same thing. You’re not going to get along with everyone. There’s always something that your brother does to piss you off. I’ve seen Gucci and Waka fight before. They argue about whatever and they will be right back cool the next day. They are fucking friends, it’s way deeper than this music shit and beefing on records. Those dudes have been through a lot together.
I remember when Waka told me, "I’m finna start rapping." Even when Waka wasn’t rapping Gucci loved him like a little brother. Waka was a goon and he was ride or die for Gucci. He was loyal, loyal, loyal, loyal. You don’t usually have dudes like that anymore. It’s crazy because I had just put out a mixtape when they got into their shit most recently. It was the Spring Bling mixtape and Gucci is on a record saying, "Waka, that’s my motherfucking brother." I saw the tweets and thought, "Damn! How could these motherfuckers be beefing? Fuck." It hurts you. Cause I was on the outside looking in. I consider them both to be family, Debra is my auntie for real, that’s not just a name. To see two of her babies go at it, you never want to see that shit.
This ain’t entertainment for us. It may be entertainment for the media, it might be entertainment to the fans, but it’s not for us. We’ve had a lot of fun together. We would have Waka in one room and Gucci in one room just working together with Bricksquad. They are all dope artists, Frenchie, Wooh, Nicki.
The records that I did with Nicki! Nicki has been to my crib to do records a couple times. Just look up Nicki Minaj, Gucci Mane, and Drumma Boy, there are two or three records that come up. She was over here, always real respectful. She killed it, she was a woman artist on the song with all these dudes holding her weight, it was impressive. It’s sad to see motherfuckers get into it. Hopefully, a month from now we will see all them on a record back doing their thing.
With these two being your close friends, when this started back in the spring did you feel like you could’ve stepped in?
Anytime you break up some shit, you’re the one that fucks up. If you put your two cents in where it’s not required or needed, it usually backfires on you. That’s like my two cousins fighting. You don’t want to see them fight, but if you break it up, they are going to just do it again. It’s deeper than you.
There are whole groups and environments connected to these dudes. Waka has a clique that don’t mess with Gucci’s clique. End of the day, no matter what they come up with, you will still have cliques that don’t work. It goes deeper than just the two of them, so it’s something that you can’t really intervene in. So, you just got to mind your business, support Waka, support Gucci, support whoever. We’re working, it has nothing to do with drama.
Since Friday, have you been in the studio with Gucci?
No. I’ve talked to him a couple times. We just talked about when he was coming through. We’ve been going back and forth trying to get this Chris Brown record done for his album.
Who knows what’s next with Gucci? You just got to ride with him. I don’t cut my friends off just because they are going through something. I rode with Rick Ross when he was going through his s**t with 50 and everyone was looking at me crazy for riding with him.
Considering what’s been going on this weekend, would it be a good time to record with Gucci or would you would want to wait?
I’m recording with Gucci right now. Chris Brown is working on a couple songs and then it’s going right to Gucci. Gucci just did a song for me. Gucci is still working. I love working with Gucci, period. As long as he has something to say. I hate working with artists who don’t have something to say or when they have something that sounds cool but isn’t really them. That’s the thing about Gucci, he stays true to himself and says what’s on his mind. Sometimes it can hurt you, but at least he is being true. I have to respect him for that. So if I can catch him saying such and such on my beat, I don’t have a problem with it. I didn’t say it. You’re going to have beef with me because I did the beat?
Who knows what’s next with Gucci? You just got to ride with him. I don’t cut my friends off just because they are going through some bullshit. I rode with Rick Ross when he was going through his shit with 50 and everyone was looking at me crazy for riding with him. If 50 called me, I would’ve worked with him. The producer has nothing to do with this shit. I make beats for whoever calls me and says they want it and I believe them. Rick Ross is dope to me, 50 Cent is dope to me, Gucci Mane is dope to me, Young Jeezy is dope to me
So the Chris Brown collaboration with Gucci, that’s going to be on his upcoming album, correct?
Should be. Whatever Gucci plans to do with it. He’s working on the album now so that’s where we are focusing.
It’s called Mr. Guwop, correct?
I guess. I don’t know, I haven’t been keeping up with the name. I just know it’s a Gucci album.
