When California rappers Audio Push helped usher jerking onto the national scene with their hit single "Teach Me How To Jerk," they gave off a casual, upbeat impression. But the duo, who are now part of star producer Hit Boy's HS87 imprint, have taken a slightly grittier turn on recent projects.
Their latest mixtape, Come As You Are, offers an updated sound that's fully aware of contemporary trends, while offering a unique blend of old-school lyricism, stripped down ratchet sounds and an underlying melodic sensibility.
It features from big names like T.I., Lil Wayne and Wale, as well as appearances from up-and-comers like Vic Mensa, Joey Bada$$, Ty Dolla $ign, James Fauntleroy, Iamsu! and, of course, Hit Boy himself on the mic. Production duties are handled primarily by Hit Boy, with contributioons from Hazebanga, Key Wane, and others.
It's a big look for the duo, and it's got some very promising moments. Check it out here.
